As I have often said, just because a component is useful, does not mean it should be standardized. Plenty of components can be useful and they should stay in the ecosystem. On GitHub. Well, maybe these days you might want to also put a copy somewhere else. Just in case, if you know what I mean.

I digress. This paper now offers an explanation of a particular coordination problem that standardization solves, which is not solved through ecosystem adoption alone.
