I’m really not sure what you’re saying here,
It is providing the messages for each date sorted by subject author or date, it’s unclear what is making it seem as if the authors are named “by author”, etc ?
I recognize that compared to other formats the UX may seem anachronistic, but it does not seem yo reach the bar of being confusing?

The headings “by subject,” “by author,” and “by date” are displayed as if they were actual data entries, which creates the misleading impression that every author is named “by author” and every subject is “by subject.” This significantly affects the readability and accessibility of the content.
