Well, it helps people (like me) who don't confidently know that __COUNTER__
(and #pragma once) are as ubiquitous as you say, and avoid using them - or
don't even know that they exist because they aren't mentioned at
cppreference.com. Or who believe that the fact they aren't standardised
must indicate that there is some essential flaw with them, or something.
