Hello SG22,

As it so happens, the next WG21 meeting in Búzios, Brazil (16-21 November 2026) is co-located with a WG14 meeting which will be at the same place during the same week. This gives us, the C/C++ Liaison Group, the unique opportunity to have an SG22 meeting in person (or rather, hybrid: in person + zoom).

I have consulted with both the WG21 convenor (Guy Davidson) and the WG14 convenor (Robert Seacord) and turns out that such a meeting is feasible both logistically and procedurally. However, the only possible time slot for this is Friday 20 November 2026 in the afternoon (exact time to be confirmed), Búzios local time (UTC-3). This is because WG14 is planning to wrap up proceedings by Friday lunch time and will therefore no longer be in session Friday afternoon.

Another slight procedural complication is that WG21 *will* still be formally in session on Friday afternoon, so this hybrid SG22 meeting would have to be considered part of WG21's formal proceedings and therefore anyone attending – whether in person or on zoom – will have to either be an accredited WG21 expert (i.e., listed on the ISO Global Directory for WG21) or else obtain a formal invitation from the WG21 convenor to attend as a guest. This is not an insurmountable obstacle, and in fact Guy told me that he's happy to grant such a guest invitation to anyone interested in attending such a hybrid SG22 meeting in Búzios. He just needs to know people's names, e-mail addresses, and national bodies sufficiently far in advance so he can notify ISO accordingly, and I can even batch-forward him that list to streamline this process.

Before we proceed with organising all this, I'd like to gauge the appetite of this group for actually having this meeting and whether it's worth the effort. Therefore, could you all please reply to this email (you can do so privately to me, no need to reply to the whole mailing list) and answer the following questions:

Q1. Are you interested in attending such a hybrid SG22 meeting at the specified time?
Q2. If your reply to Q1 is yes: would you be attending in person in Búzios, Brazil, or remotely via Zoom?
Q3. If your reply to Q1 is yes: are you listed on the ISO Global Directory for *WG21* (whether you are listed for WG14 is irrelevant)?
Q4. If your reply to Q3 is no: what is your national body, and do you consent to me forwarding your name, e-mail address, and national body to the WG21 convenor for the purposes of obtaining a guest invitation?

Please feel free to share any questions, suggestions, or concerns regarding this idea.

I believe that it is worthwhile organising such an SG22 meeting in Búzios. I would be very excited to meet (at least a subset of) you in person, and I believe having some in-person meeting time would benefit the group dynamics in SG22, and thus our collective technical work, going forward. This is a unique opportunity which we might not get again.

Cheers,
Timur
